The work includes a historical contextualization, addressing the main civilizations that developed empirical geometry until reaching Euclid, who, in his work Elements, demonstrates the formulas for calculating the area of plane figures. The research also examines the guiding documents of basic education, highlighting the importance of studying geometry in both elementary and high school levels. Furthermore, the relevance of mathematical knowledge for teachers is emphasized, particularly concerning the formulas discussed in this work. Finally, a didactic sequence was developed to enable teachers to apply, in the classroom, the knowledge acquired throughout the research.
