A violência de gênero durante a ditadura civil-militar brasileira (1964-1985) sob as lentes de Ozualdo Candeias

Abstract

This text addresses gender violence during the civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985), from Ozualdo Candeias' film A Freira e a tortura (1983). It is a fiction feature that shows the imprisonment and torture of a nun. Based on Jorge Andrade's play Milagre na Cela (1975), the film allows us to problematize a theme that is not very much addressed by Brazilian historiography, that is, political and gender violence against religious during the military regime in Brazil.
