Olhares sobre a história social no e do Brasil contemporâneo: trabalho, trabalhadores/as e movimentos sociais

Abstract

This essay treats the Brazilian Social History, produced from the end of 20th to the beginning of 21th Centuries, based on a reflection about the notions of labor, laborers and social movements. At first, analyzes the historiography that started studying industrial labor history and, after, expanded its scope to investigate labor history, culminating in researches about laborers and their daily lives. In a second moment, discuss the inclusion of social movements to the group of interesting themes for the area. Therefore, thinks about the notion of Social History – without intentions to create a definitive concept –, at the same time, discuss the impact of the area’s enlargement on the use of documents in research. Holds that the Social History is still current and offers big contributions to the historiography, although faces new challenges too.
