Resumo
Mortuary images and their iconographic nature are essential
to understand the social experience of death in Mediterranean societies.
Care for the cult of the dead is revealed in textual narratives such as
epigrams and material remains present in museums and necropolises.
Historiography documents a close relationship between textual and mate rial vestiges not only correlated to the form but also, as supposed, to the
emotional dimension. In this context, this study aims to unrevealing and
understand affective images of death in two epigrams of Catulo – 68 AND
101 – as well as in altars and stelae of Mediolanum. Specifically, this study sought to analyze the public expression of pain and the insertion
of emotional dimensions on how the dead were remembered in regions
of Cisalpine Gaul.
