The specific characteristics of rainfalls vary among regions. Therefore, it’s necessary to know his potential to cause erosion to plan agricultural and civil engineering. Knowing that rain is not a random phenomenon showing great variation in intensity during its occurrence, this study was developed with the aims of studying the natural erosive rainfall patterns observed in Goiânia – GO, and estimating the return periods of rainfalls for three proposed patterns. Was used a series of rainfall data during the period between 2005 to 2009, from the Climatological Station of the School of Agronomy, Federal University of Goiás (UFG). According to the time of occurrence of the maximum intensity, rains were classified into three patterns: advanced, intermediary and delayed, being calculated the maximum rainfall intensities for various durations and return periods. From 231 individually erosive rainfalls analyzed, the patterns advanced, intermediary and delayed corresponded respectively to 160 (69%), 48 (21%) and 23 (10%) of the rains. This features the advanced pattern as the more frequent in Goiânia.
