Práticas culturais e ansiedade: uma perspectiva analítico-comportamental do sofrimento psicológico

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to discuss how some cultural practices can influence and maintain anxious behavior. It is understood that there is a significant gap in behavior-analytic studies that consider the level of cultural selection in psychopathological anxiety. The analysis is based on the epistemological foundations of radical behaviorism. In addition, the understanding of anxiety as a behavioral phenomenon is discussed, considering its psychopathological manifestation. It is argued that cultural practices also have an impact on how the phenomenon of pathological anxiety is understood. Bibliographical research of texts with the same theoretical bias was therefore used, selecting journal articles and classic texts that have influenced the debate on the subject. The development of the objectives based on these texts allowed us to see that behavior analysis can investigate some of the cultural practices associated with psychopathological anxiety. We highlight individualistic cultural practices, coercion and inequalities. This highlights the importance of further research into the subject based on empirical and conceptual models, given the breadth, complexity and relatively low academic output
