Mamíferos no bioma Cerrado: um panorama da floresta nacional de Silvânia

Abstract

Increasing human pressure on protected areas worldwide, which has affected one-third of these areas, is undermining the effectiveness of biodiversity protection and the maintenance of vital ecosystems. The Cerrado bioma, one of the most biodiverse in the world , has been facing threats to its biodiversity, thus highlighting the urgency of creating strategies to preserve it the fauna and ecosystem. In this context, the mammal fauna of the Cerrado plays a crucial ecological role, contributing to processes such as seed dispersal and population control, while also being senstive to environmental changes, making it an important indicator of ecosystem heath. However, inventories and monitoring of protected areas (PAs) remain limited, particularly for small mammals, which are often overlooked in fauna studies. The Silvânia National Forest, located within this bioma, harbors a poorly studied mammalian fauna, underscoring the need for a thorough review and expansion of the species list in the area. This study aimed to identify confirmed mammal species with confirm records within the limits of the area and those with potencial occurrence thar have records in the areas surrounding FLONA. The description included data collected by camera traps, direct observation, unpublished secondary data from collaborators. A total of 46 species were confirmed and 16 were identified as potential ocorrences. The results highlights the importance of describing the occurrence oof species in protected areas such as FLONA for the conservation of threatened mammals and emphasize the need for sustainable management strategies and protection of local biodiversity.
