Resumo
The epídemiologic data
conceming the papers of 2.010
(30,16%) patients with hansen's
disease treating ín the Public Health
Service in Goiânia were analyzed
retrospectively. The papers were
chosen in an aleatory manner and
descriptively analyzed, with indication
of frequency and percentual
calculi. Considering the high
endemicity of Hansen's disease in
Brazil, with a total of notified cases
corresponding to 80% of Latin
American cases (MOTTA, 1983), in Goiás its endemicity (3.0/1000) is
higher than the Brazilian average
(1.7/1000), and in Goiânia, Capital of
The State, it was registered an annual
detection coefficient of cases twofold
higher than the registered in the whole
state (67.87/100.0OO), with a high
prevalence (6.9/1000), which is,
therefore, an importam problem to the
Public Health. From the data
collected, we would like to point out
some aspects: a) There is a
predominance of the polarized clinicai
forms, existing a defíciency in the
search for patients via examination of
the contacts; b) The great majority of
the patients are within the productive
age group, married and with
predominancy of masculme sex;
c) The high number of negative
results in bacteriologic examination,
demonstrates the prolonged time of
treatment to which the patient is
submitted; d) More contacts registrations
belong to the bacillary
group; e) It was observed that 30
cases (1.49%) are from other States,
651 (32,39%) from the interior of
Goiás and 1,329 (66,12%) from the
Capital, Goiânia (being 78,25% of
these 1,329 patients inhabitants of the
periphery of the city).
The authors suggest an improvement
of the Public Health Services,
emphasizing the necessity of
an adequate education to the patients,
such as to the staff.
