Resumo

Forty-five mice of the C57B1/6 strain were divided in 2 groups, group I with 30 animais and group II with 15 animais. Each animal was inoculated with 10 infecting eggs of Toxocara canis, per os, by means of a probe inserted directly into the esophagus. The eggs used for the inoculum were obtained by dissection of female specimens of the parasite, and kept in formaldehide 1%, during 40 days, until the infecting stage was obtained. The animais of group I were treated with Albendazol after the 7th day of infection, at the dose of 400mg/Kg/day, per os, during 30 days. The mice in group II (control group) were not treated with the drug. On the 5th day after the end of the treatment, ali animais were sacrificed, and the eyes and brain were examined in the optical microscope, using the slide - compression technique. An efficacy levei of 76,36% was observed. We conclude that the scheduled treatment followed in this experiment was inefficient on the treatment of Toxocara canis.
