Resumo
This work hás evaluated the occurrence of Toxoplasma gondii infection in
patients with the HIV infection at the Hospital of Tropical Diseases of Goiás State,
through the indirect immunofluorescence reaction. Data were obtained from the
records of 337 HIV patients, which diedbetween 1986 and 1994. Search for specific
wú-Toxoplasma antibodies (IgG and IgM) by indirect immunofluorescence (IIF)
was carried out in the será of 123 (36,5%) patients, with a positive reaction in 80
(65,0% - IC95 55,9 - 73,4). The IIF reaction was also carried out in the liquor of 70
(20,8%) patients, and 34 (48,6% - IC95% 36,4 - 60,8) had a reagent reaction. In 37
patients the antibody testing was carried out simultaneously in the será and in the
liquor and 18 (48,6% - IC95% 31,9 - 65,6) showed reactivity in both tests. There was
no evidence of IgM reactivity in any of the results.
