Resumo

The biology of Triatoma jurbergi in laboratory conditions is described for the first time, in order to evaluate its potential as a vector for the transmission of the infection, as well as its rearing conditions and the potential use on xenodiagnosis. Tests were carried out in biological chambers, kept at 25° C and 30° C, relative humidity of 52% and a 12 hour photophase. Incubation time for T.jurbergi eggs was 34,7 ± 0,2 days at 25° C and 16,2 ± 0,2 days at 30° C. At 25° C the mean duration of the nymph instars was 41,1; 40,0; 66,9; 158,6 e 260,8 days, respectively to the 1°, 2°, 3° 4° and 5° instars, and 19,9; 23,9; 29,3; 40,5 and 56,4 days respectively to the 1°, 2°, 3° 4° and 5° stages at 30° C. The nymph period had a mean duration of 567,3 ± 3,1 days, at 25° C and 169,9 ± 1,6 days at 30° C. At 25° C the evolutive cycle lasted 601,9 ± 3,2 days and 186,1 ± 1,6 days.
