Resumo
The objective of this study was to estabíish the prevalence of the sarcoptic
mange in pigs in the microregion of Goiânia, State of Goiás, from August to
December 2001. Thirty two farms located in 23 municipalities in the range of
250 Km from Goiânia city were included in this study. From 2,737 breeding stocks, 322 ear skin scrap samples were collected using a curette, and each
sample was then submitted to dkect microscopy or to the floatation
technique. It was demonstrated that 39 pigs and 10 farms wcrc ínfcsted,
despite the method of diagnosis used to dctect sarcoptic mange. Thirty three
pigs were confirmed as positive by direct microscopy and 27 animais by the
floatation technique. The overall prevalence determined for the microregion
of Goiânia was 12,1%.
