Resumo

The present work aims to analyze the state of the art of scientific production related to the subject of resistance training in the elderly, as well as its cardiovascular aspects, based on the period from 2005 to 2015, in articles produced in Portuguese language. Within this context, the authors sought to present, through the literature, the effects of resistance training (RT) for cardiovascular alterations in the elderly. For that, the characteristics of the RT, the characteristics of the researched population (elderly) and the contributions of the practice to them were presented. In the results it was possible to show how important it is to have the elaboration of training protocols for older people, as a basis for physical education teachers, since it is already based on some protocols (for beginners, for weight loss), as well The elaboration for this group becomes of total relevance since it is a group of risk. Another aspect is that it is noted that the great majority does not take into account resistance training for the elderly. Therefore, to show studies that emphasize the benefits of practice not only helps to improve and increase the prescription, but in the redefinition of the most recommended practice as it has been demonstrated during the course of the development of this work of completion of course, it is fundamental that both the Science as the area of physical education with its professionals, understand the importance of resistance training for this age group.
