Resumo
Advances in molecular biology have contributed significantly to understanding the genesis of diseases. The proteins perform different functions in the body and are responsible for maintaining homeostasis. Changes in composition can trigger pathological processes, so the application of molecular methods to identify disease markers is of great importance. Various studies were conducted to allow immunodetection of the different proteins since of the development of gel electrophoresis. The advent of the Western blotting technique, in the 70s, allow detection, characterization and quantified of the proteins by electrophoresis. This method determined breakthrough in the study of various animal diseases, primarily because it is a test of high sensitivity and specificity, and is a fast method of
execution, accuracy and accessible to research labs and diagnostic routine service. This approach aims to review the WB technical and of application possibilities for research and diagnosis of infectious agents in veterinary medicine, an area where researchers are deeply involved.
