Heterose para teor de proteína no grão em cruzamentos entre populações de milho derivadas de híbridos comerciais

Resumo

One of the greatest concerns on maize breeding throughout the years has been to increase production without reducing nutritional quality. The present study aims to evaluate F2 maize populations with normal endosperm and their crosses, as related to total grain protein content and determining heterosis and its components. The method used for protein content determination was proposed by AOAC "Official methods of analysis", adapted and used by CIMMYT (International Center for Maize and Wheat Breeding). The statistical diallelic analysis of data was carried out through the Gardner and Eberhart's model IV (1966). The fundamental operation for parameter estimation as well as for sums of squares calculation was the ordinary minimum squares. It was observed significance for all effects of the adopted model. For the trait total grain protein content, the best genitors were AG-6690 and ZN-8486, and the best hybrid combination was P30K75 x AG-6016.
