Resumo
In this paper we study what is an indigenous land and
what is an indigenous territory. It also brings information about
how is the legal recognition process and wich are the institutional
steps that culminate in the ratifi cation of a land. We analyse and
compare the recognition processes of indigenous lands during Fer-
nando Collor, Fernando Cardoso Henrique e Luiz Inacio Lula
da Silva governments, and we conclude that during this last pe-
riod an increase of violence ocurred against índigenous people, as
well as a decrease in land recognition.
