Resumo
Among all the native species identified as economically viable for the
Brazilian Savana, the souari nut has great potential. However, large-scale monoculture
production of this plant in the Brazilian Savana still seems risky and unsustainable due to lack
of proper crop management practices. This study aimed to evaluate the growth of souari nuts
plants subjected to different irrigation and fertilization strategies. The study was conducted at
in Goiânia-GO, Brazil, in an orchard with 120 plants (5x5m), with 22 months of age
(Nov/2010). The experiment was a randomized block with split plots, six repetitions and 13
times of plants evaluation (23 to 36 months old). The treatments were described in irrigated
and non irrigated, fertilized and not fertilized. We used the microsprinkler system, and the
water volume applied, based on the estimated crop evapotranspiration. Two fertilization
applications were performed (Nov/2010 and Nov/2011), with: compost, coal and yoorin. Plant
growth was assessed monthly, based on the following variables: plant height, main branch
length, stem diameter, number of branches, length and number of shoots. The results showed
that the treatments did not influence the growth of significantly of souari nut plants,
confirming the high adaptation to the conditions of these species in the region.
