Resumo
The Brazilian Cerrado is being. rapidly. convertecd with the incorporation of its lands to the rnodern productive system. Jataí in the state of Goias, is a clear example of the conversion of the natural lancdscapes by cultívated pastures and crops (e.g. soybeans). Such replacement on the other hancL is occurring without a previous knowledge regarding the capacity orthe environment for supporting such forms of occupation nor the potential benefíts for the local population.
