Resumo
The information and communication technologies have been modifying the forms of society communicate, relate and learn. Among the various opportunities that technologies offer, we chose investigate the internet, specifically the communities of the social network Orkut related to Chemistry. Among the hundreds of selected communities which refer to the key words used in the search (Chemistry and Chemistry teaching) were analyzed four of them, which represent the main types of affairs/communities found in the search. The results show that the purpose of users to participate in the community and the feeling of affinity group. The few discussions, which appear in relation to Chemistry, are based on general affairs, as a form of entertainment using the scientific knowledge. Thus, it appears that the Orkut as social network in which they appear in communities for use of discussion forums is not definitely the locus of knowledge, although that may provide moments of informal learning.
