Resumo
The study is to analyze the informational behavior of the elderly in the Open University of the Third Age of the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás, that is, to identify the need for information search and use by this part of the population. The research is classified by exploratory-descriptive, with qualitative approach. The instruments used in the data collection were the bibliographic review, observation, interview and the questionnaire applied. For 25 years, UNATI Goiânia has developed educational activities through the Social Gerontology Program, which provide the interaction and insertion of the elderly in the information society. The disciplines taught aim to inform the elderly of their rights and place in society. The results indicate that the informational behavior of the elderly is related to their social interaction, and the activities developed by the extension project contribute to their inclusion in the current society through the use of new technologies. The respondents correspond to the new profile of the Brazilian elderly population, that is, they are autonomous, live alone and perform their daily activities, both domestic and financial without the help of third parties. Therefore, the elderly who participated in this research, even with difficulties, can identify their informational needs, seek information, use and share their experiences.
