Resumo
The first cello sonata was written in 1931 and it is a relatively early work of Guamieri, who was only twenty-four; but it already shows a refinement of cornpositional technique. Through the analysis of the piece in terrns oí form, harrnony, melody, rhythrn, and texture the author intends to inform and guide the perforrner into Guamieri's music. It is relevant his care for detail and inner logic of structural evolution, the nostalgic character and freedorn of his melody, the cornplexity of his harmonic language, the richness of his rhythrn, the marked presence of polyphony, all of this having a structural relationship with folk and popular Brazilian rnusic.
