The purpose of the article is to present an analysis of secularism and its characteristics in the Brazilian context. The theme is interpreted from the concepts of the rationalization, disenchantment of the world and secularization. In view of religious pluralism context, analyzes the formulations and the main
debates about the presence of religion in the public space in its interface with the political sphere.
