Resumo
The rescue of the pharmacist’s role dispensing in community pharmacies became necessary due the rising costs related to
morbidity and mortality associated with inappropriate use of medicines. The lack of standardized models of dispensing is an
obstacle to the professional practice and promotion of rational use of medicines in order to reduce the costs associated with
inappropriate use of them. The aim of this article is to do a report of an experience on a dispensing service that was structured
in a university pharmacy in the city of Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil. The dispensing service model was structured based on existing
laws and proposed models in the literature. The proposed dispensing service proved to be adequate to needs of the university
pharmacy and also be able to identify drug related problems and avoid possible negative outcomes associated with medicines.
This is an alternative to the structure of dispensing service in other community pharmacies to promote the rational use of
medicines and to reduce costs associated with its misuse.
