It addresses the secondhand book market in Goiânia from a survey of the existing secondhand bookshops in the city and a case study of the store Feira Cultural de Campinas, considered the oldest bookstore of Goiânia in operation. Its purpose, therefore, is to describe the history and operation of this bookstore, as well as the characteristics of this market in Goiânia. When updating a survey carried out in 2005, the research is based on the hypothesis that the number of stores of this type has declined since then and that those stores are affected by the crisis in the Brazilian book market. For this, the methodology used is the case study from the qualitative approach of the problem, with the use of unstructured interview with the owner of the bookstore, simple observation of the store and, for the survey, forms as research instruments. The research is also basic, inductive and descriptive. Among the results, a decrease in the number of secondhand bookstores of the city was detected: from 32 to 23 in thirteen years. The vast majority of them conducts virtual sales and sells materials other than used books (such as comic books, magazines and audiovisual materials). Bookkeepers have identified that their clients are varied, with no distinction of class, age, or occupation, and that a very frequent client are students and parents of students. Lastly, most booksellers state that there has been a very large drop in sales especially in the last two years. It concludes that the outlook is not good and is feared by the non-survival of this type of market in the near future. It recommends carrying out new studies that investigate the reasons and effects for this crisis and new surveys to be carried out periodically to see if the fall in the number of bookstores is realized.
