Análise da camada de fibras nervosas da retina pela tomografia de coerência óptica em pacientes com anemia falciforme

Resumo

Purpose: To evaluate the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) in sickle cell disease with optical coherence tomography (OCT). Methods: The present study selected patients with sickle cell disease (SS) from the Federal University of Goias, and normal volunteers, controlled by age and sex. Inclusion criteria for both groups were: visual acuity e” 20/30 without correction, intraocular pressure d” 21mmHg and a reliable and normal 24-2 Sita Standard visual field and optic disc. Thereafter, all subjects were submitted to OCT, Fast RNFL strategy, and the results compared between groups. Results: Twenty-four patients (24 eyes) were included per group. The mean age was 25.2 ± 14.9 years in the sickle cell group and 20.5 ± 12.5 years in the normal subjects (p=0.09). There was no statistically difference in the mean RNFL thickness between both groups in all areas evaluated. Conclusion: There was no statistically difference in the mean RNFL thickness measured by OCT between normal individuals and patients with sickle cell disease with normal ophthalmic examination.
