Prevalência da deficiência auditiva em recém-nascidos com indicadores de risco para surdez em um hospital de ensino

Resumo

Introduction: The early diagnostic and intervention in the deafness of fundamental importance in the infantile development, because the disease is more prevalent than other disorders found at birth. Aim: Estimate the prevalence of hearing impairment in newborns with risk indicators for deafness in a teaching hospital. Material and method: A prospective cross-sectional study that evaluated 226 newborns, born in a public hospital, and they had hearing screening after discharge from May, 2009 to December, 2009. Results: From the 61 screened, 20 (32,8%) had no emissions, and were sent to the second emission. Considering the total, 12 (60%) children attended the retest, two of this total (27%) remained with the absence and were referred to the otolaryngologist. Two (66,7%) attended and were examined by a doctor. These, had otoscopy normal were referred for evaluation of Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR). Of all children studied, 50 (82%) had emissions present in one of the TEOAE, 1 (1,6%) with deafness diagnosis. Conclusion: The prevalence of auditory changes in this population was 1,6%.
