Prevalência de hipertensão arterial sistêmica em policiais militares do estado de Goiás

Resumo

Objective: To identify the prevalence of systemic arterial hypertension in the military police of Goias state. Methods: Quantitative, transversal and observational research conducted at the Hospital of the Military Police of Goiás State. Sample consists of 1477 police officers of both sexes, regardless of ethnicity or age group who underwent annual periodic evaluation program at the Integral Health Center of Military Police in 2013. We used the measurement data of the blood pressure of police held by health professionals of the unit. Blood pressure (BP) classification: normal BP <130/85, borderline BP between 130-139 / 85-89 and systemic arterial hypertension BP ≥ 140/90. Results: The sample consisted of 1477 military police, 1366 (92.5%) men and 111 (7.5%) women. Regarding blood pressure classification, in this study we found that 797 (54%) had normal pressure, 712 (89%) men and 85 (11%) women; 103 (7%) had borderline pressure, 99 (96%) men and 4 (4%) women; 577 (39%) had systemic arterial hypertension, 555 (96%) were male and 22 (4%) women. Conclusion: This study identified high prevalence of hypertension in military police of Goiás state, compared to other states. The results show the importance of implementation multi-professional actions aimed at prevention and health promotion of the military police. This way, the knowledge of the caracteristics of the studied population enables better interaction between the health professional and the patient, allowing the elaboration of actions and interventions with significant results in this population.
