A contagem dos folículos antrais na predição de resultados em ciclos de fertilização in vitro: uma revisão sistemática

Resumo

Objective: To review the ability of the antral follicle count in the prediction of in vitro fertilization cycles outcomes. Method: A systematic review of studies published in the last 13 years that aimed to determine the ability of the antral follicle count to predict outcome in IVF cycles was done. These studies were available in the scientific databases MEDLINE, LILACS and Scielo. The keywords were the antral follicle count, ovarian reserve and in vitro fertilization. Results: During the search it was found that there were 975 published articles. We selected 16 articles published between the years of 2000 to 2013 that showed the importance of the antral follicle count to predict in vitro fertilization cycles outcomes in patients of childbearing age, with no history of ovarian surgery, non-smokers and undergoing the first in vitro fertilization cycle. Conclusion: Most studies show that few antral follicle counts is associated with the occurrence of poor ovarian response and greater chance of canceling cycles of in vitro fertilization cycles, as well as a low amount of collected oocytes. There is still no ideal method for predicting pregnancy reliably.
