Resumo
The present research had as objective to analyze the investments in Public Security in the State of Goiás between the years of 2013 to 2017 and the impact in relation to the crime rates. Data collection was done through the budget balance sheets published on the website of the Secretariat of State for Management and Planning (SEGPLAN) and criminal data provided by the Mauro Borges Institute for Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (IMB). In order to update the monetary variables, the IGP-DI (General Price Index - Internal Availability) was used, and the first procedure was adopted for the analysis of data collected from the budget balance sheets. The techniques of analysis were systematized through trend analysis, always compiling two variables, starting from a synthetic variable (Capital Expenditures) to a more analytical one (Criminality), in addition to the use of tables and graphs that showed the evolutions or involutions of the investments over time. Regarding the analysis between investments in public security and investments in armaments, it was found that they are inversely proportional variables in the period analyzed. Between the monetary variable "Investments in Armaments" and the non-monetary "Criminality", there was an observance of an inverse proportionality over time. In the period chosen for the analysis, it was observed that the variables investments in public security and crime had a behavior of direct proportionality, since both increased during the discretionary period.
