Resumo
The general objective of this research is to identify if the rewards
represent a positive or a negative resource to be used in the classroom, with
five pre-adolescents learners of English Language (L2). As a specific
objective, we hope to understand the influence of rewards as motivational
strategy in the process of acquisition of L2. Great part of this study is based
on the approach proposed by Gardner (1985, 1988, 1999). This study has
also adopted the proposals of the qualitative investigation to collect and
analyze the data and it has as its instrument the questionnaire. The results
point out that these specific learners are indifferent before rewards since
their participation in the requested activities is spontaneous, which reveals
that their motivation is intrinsic. Besides that, the role of rewards is not
negative because it did not present damages in its absence.
