Resumo
This article discusses the novel The Awakening
written by the American author Kate Chopin at the end of the 19th
Century. The discussion centers around the main character Edna
Pontellier and analyses her actions and attitudes from the point of
view of Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics and Buber’s
philosophy of existence. The main concepts used are those of the
hermeneutical conversation and the words “I – THOU” and “I –
OBJECT”.
