Resumo
By declaring children as protagonists of their learning process, offering them attentive
listening and providing opportunities for the development of their multiple languages, Reggio
Emilia's educational proposal is a reference today regarding early childhood education. Seeking
to know and understand how Loris Malaguzzi and the Italian society developed such a project,
the present work is based on authors such as Rinaldi (2002) and Malaguzzi (1999), seeking to
elucidate those questions. In order to understand the current facts, we recall what preceded
society: tracing the child's trajectory through Europe in the Middle Ages and in Brazil from the
mid 18th century, Ariès (1981) and Marcílio (1998) bring important aspects to understand the
conception of childhood over time. Today, Brazil has some influences from the Malaguzzian
project, in institutions that prioritize free childhood and the learning development process, in
simple environments and with the support of parents and the community.
