Resumo

This study aims to examine if the institutional relations of a federal public university towards quilombola students produce health or illness. Therefore, we analyzed data provided by the coordination responsible for inclusion and permanency in the university, using an initial form that was answered by quilombola students and a half- structured interview with six participants. The results denote psychological suffering in quilombola students towards university. This suffering was studied based on theorical references of Critical Social Psychology, as Ignacio Martín-Baró and Frantz Omar Fanon and their discussions related to mental health. We have approached to the concept of ethical-political suffering and the inclusion/exclusion dialectics of Bader Burihan Sawaia, and research related to academic performance and permanency of quilombola students. To analyze this data, we adopted Laurence Bardin’s content analysis. This research was made in the second semester of 2020 until May of 2021, contending the emergency remote education (“Ensino Remoto Emergencial”, ERE) adopted by the university due the pandemic context of COVID-19. Regarding ethical measures, the study was revised and approved by the Ethic Committee of the university.
