Resumo
This work aimed to analyze the challenges that distance and bring the field of Psychology
closer to the level of primary health care, presenting the importance of the psychologist in this
space, both during and after his training. In order to aim this goal, the work was divided into
three chapters: the first presents the changes in the conception of health, the historical and
social elements of incorporation of Psychology in health area; the second presents the
theoretical, and practical contradictions involving the constitution of Psychology being a
science in addition, the challenges of this historical process for professional performance at
the primary level; finally, the last chapter presents the data obtained from the analysis of six
articles selected on the CAPES portal (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education
Personnel) with the descriptors "psychologist's performance", "primary health care" , and
"primary health care" between 2015 and 2020. The results showed professionals continuing
prioritizing clinical, and individual care although training encompasses new areas of activity,
public health is scarcely contemplated. It is also observed that neoliberal policies have been
growing in recent years, resulting in the dismantling of public policies which guarantee the
participation of the psychologist in primary care. Finally, it is urgent to analyze the
contradictions that presently persist within the constitution of psychology and influence the
performance of these professionals in current times, in order to rethink the role of the
psychologist and its social commitment.
