Um grão de valentia: violência e trauma em Cabo de guerra, de Ivone Benedetti

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the novel Cabo de guerra (2016), by Ivone Benedetti, and discuss violence and trauma based on the trajectory of the narrator-character, whose name is not revealed, with a fragmented identity and marked by traumas since childhood. The scenario of this emblematic work is the military dictatorship in Brazil. The plot comprises the years from 1968 to 2009 and the "facts" brought by memory (re)appear between present and past, often impossible to split. As theoretical framework, the discussions of Gagnebin (2009), Figueiredo (2017), Ginzburg (2012), Seligmann-Silva (2008), Welter (2017), among others, will be used.
