Resumo
The article aims to identify the professors profile in education courses for translators and interpreters of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) in the north and center-west regions of Brazil. Specifically, describe the area and level of training and the professional experience of the professors of courses in translation and interpretation whose language pair is Libras -Portuguese. The research isdocumental, with a quanti-qualitative approach. There is only one university that offers the undergraduate course in each region investigated, and they are Universidade Federal de Roraima (UFRR) and Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG), which were surveyedand analyzed the data on the active professor profile in these institutions, and described in this research. The documents used were the list of the faculty of the respective institutions, taken from the website of the universities themselves, and the résumés of the professors of these institutions taken from the Brazilian public database, entitled Plataforma Lattes. The data shows that most of the professors have master's degrees and doctorates in areas related to translation and interpretation -literature, linguistics and humanities, while few (30%) have professional experience in translation/interpretation of sign language. The results also reveal the need for institutions to develop strategies for the continuing education of current professors and establish criteria for future hiring, given the importance of professors contextualizing aspects of professional practice in the classroom.
