Resumo

This project aims at carry out an analysis of the employment of International Public Relations’ concepts by the 13th Contingent of the 1st Brazilian Peacekeeping Battalion in Haiti (BRABAT 1). Theoretical aspects from Public Relations and International Public Relations were mentioned and compared, in order to provide the adequate theoretical basis to the case study which has been proposed. It is important to highlight that to succeed in foreign relations, a country must understand its target-public, whether it is an organization, or a government, or even a entire foreign population. Thus, the success of the peacekeeping operation in Haiti has its reasons, once it is not the first time that the United Nations try to establish a secure environment throughout the referred country, although it is the first time that Brazil assume command of a United Nations Peacekeeping Force. After gathering all concepts of PR and IPR, two questionnaires with BRABAT 1’s military officers were carried out, in order to collect information about the employment of Social Communication for the benefit of the Brazilian Battalion’s mission. Through a practical example, the current work intents to provide theoretical data, for a better understanding of International Public Relations, which is a recent area of the academic knowledge.
