Resumo

Tomographic and radiographic examination can help in the diagnostic and prognostic of lesions in equids check teeth based on knowledge of topographic anatomy. Many dental lesions still need better diagnostic imaging carachterization. The objective of this study was to compare and correlate images from radiography and computerized tomography with visual inspection of equids heads. After being submited and approved in the UFG Research Ethical Committee, protocol Nº 193/2011., were utilized 10 equids skulls of animals from the clinical and surgical service of Veterinary Hospital from School of Veterinary and Animal Science of Goiás Federal University (HV/EVZ/UFG) and pieces from the pathology service of EVZ/UFG. For radiographic examination were used lateral, lateral oblique (30º and 45º) for maxilla and mandible and dorsoventral. For tomographic examination the skulls were positioned in the ventral region of mandibula over the tomography s table and images were obtained in transverse slides. From visual inspections were observed dental enamel overgrowth in all the heads (100%), rostral and caudal hook were observed in four heads (40%), rostral and caudal ramp in six heads (60%), diastema in three heads (30%), wave in two heads (20%), incomplete fracture of clinical crown in two heads (20%) and dental eruption in two heads (20%).Tomography was very important for confirmation of fractures seen isolated in visual inspection and radiographic examination and were visible the periosteal reactions in the alveolar bone border of the tooth. All dental lesions observed were classified as acquired with multifatorial etiology and considered important finds because can impair dental check occlusion. It can be concluded that radiographic examination should be used in association to clinical exam and tomographical examination is superior to the examination of bones details, periapical region, root, pulpar cavity and structures that form the tooth like dentin, enamel and cement. Tridimensional reconstruction of the skull´s tomographic examination is advantageous for evaluation of details in the surface of bones and teeth.
