Resumo

The investments and researches in energy efficiency increased over recent years, when developing and developed countries are studying and committed to change their policies, in search of economy and sustainability. Following this, the construction industry received significant energy efficiency investments, which the main focus was the envelope improvement the envelope. Research shows that envelope performance assessment provides a better energy efficiency, and many countries have bet on it being as the key to energy efficiency progress in their countries. So, the aim of this study was to determine the best cost benefit between different design alternatives of a social housing in Goiania, Goiás. This kind of housing is popular because of their low cost, however their construction still calls for different strategies to improve their thermal performance. To develop this research, a specific social housing design was chosen and the scenarios were created by changing the envelope materials. The energy analysis was performed with the Energy Plus® and the results shows that is possible to improve the thermal performance of a building without increase its budget. 7 among 16 scenarios show better cost benefit than the original design. The alternative considered the best cost benefit shows lower internal temperature than the original design and it saved about 30% of the original envelope budget.
