Resumo
The Emergence and reemergence of the ‘popular’ in the original urban plan for the City
of Goiânia” presents the result of research conducted for a Master of Art and Visual Culture degree
from the UFG in the “Cultures of Image and Mediation Processes” line of research (“C”). The
objective was to propose processes of mediation between architecture and urban planning
documented by mapping out the vernacular buildings in Goiania that challenge the positivist logic
of the original urban plan for this city. For this work, bricolages of times and forms were used
simultaneously with images and text in plays of alterities on the multiplicity of concepts, inquiries
and discoveries whose meaning emerged gradually throughout the process. The research was based
on stories of childhood experiences, divided up between rural and urban areas, in which I seek to
reveal repertoires and skills learned in different geographical, social and cultural spaces. I register
the earliest experiences in different designs, constructions/buildings, “architectures” and building
techniques. I also present a narrative of a journey to Morocco in 2011, which was the inspiration
for my inquiries on materiality and virtuality in vernacular architecture. They were essential for the
search for images in the city of Goiânia. The fundamental methodological procedure used for the
research was the manipulation of images using engraving techniques, which allowed me to create
new images, as an expansion of the artistic experience, which facilitated access to the experiences
and memories of displacements associated with the journey and displacements. The method used
to collect the vernacular images was a journey on foot through the city, which includes the actions
of photographing and mapping. Finally, the process of constructing the meanings learned through
a review of the literature, practice in the atelier and field work entailed the construction of an atlas
of images based on the work of Aby Warburg (Mnemosyne Atlas), which is considered here as an
academic exercise of bricolage. This exercise can also be understood as an essay of intertwined
images. It proposes “an archeology of visual knowledge” (SAMAIN, 2011) that allows the
boundary between the disciplines to be questioned. This, in turn, creates a rhizomatic space for
compositions that are more open to the discoveries, aspirations and desires included in this study.
