Resumo

The following paper operates a conceptual selection in the works of philosopher Paul Ricoeur. The intention is to debate concepts that are important for reflections inherent to historiography, in specific to the fields of ‘theory of history’ and epistemology. The hermeneutic described as triple mimesis presented in the first chapter is central to the text. Our second chapter deals with two epistemological developments of mimetic activity: the intersection between history and fiction and the concept of narrative identity. In the first case, we argue that imagination plays an important role in the historiographic operation, and in the second we present the concept of narrative identity as a consequence of mimetic activity. In our third chapter we deal with instruments for reading historical time. On the one hand, the operators of historical time: the calendar, the concept of generations, the institutionalization of archives and the construction of historical evidence through traces. On the other hand, we approach other possibilities of reading time through space, and testimony as another alternative for narrating historical experience. Finally, we point out limits of the historiographical narrative by identifying uses and misuses abuses in the agency of memory through the narrative configuration. In our last item, we identify a case of narrative controversy in Brazil.
