Resumo

This work aims to analyze the Algebra teaching in the Basic School Education, based on official documents, on Algebraic Education concepts, on long-scale assessments and on reports from the teachers of the state education system of Goias. We will start by addressing the history of Algebra amongst past civilizations. Reporting key moments for teaching and learning. Thereafter, we will address the concepts of Algebraic Education directed towards understanding how the algebraic concepts can be applied in the teaching-learning process. We analyzed the official documents that determine the education in Brazil, from the SAEB and SAEGO evaluations to the state of Goias curriculum, emphasizing the content related to Algebra. Lastly, we will present the results of the research done through an electronic questionnaire filled by the local teachers of the state education network, reporting their perceptions on Algebra teaching in public schools. In that regard, we intend to provide analyses that will lead educators in reflecting about the Algebra teaching process in the public schools of Goias, and to seek improvements in the quality of the teaching-learning process.
