Resumo

As part of the line of research entitled Culture and Educational Processes of the Graduate Program in Education at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), this thesis investigates the conceptual relationship between human formation and instrumental rationality in contemporary times, as well as seeks to understand the meaning of broad education towards emancipation in face of the contradictions of the cultural (de)formation that is constituted in the historical and social context. In view of the alignment of educational institutions with the norms of capitalist society, it is appropriate to think of an autonomous and emancipatory formation that enables humanization by means of resistance to instrumentalization and pseudoformation. This theoretical and bibliographical study, carried out in the light of the Frankfurt School’s critical theory, is based on the works of Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer. The historical period in which this work focuses begins with the study of myth and classical reason in Antiquity and extends itself until the society of late capitalism, with the study of technical and technological rationality. In this research, it is understood that human formation encompasses the relationship between subject and object mediated by social contradictions in a true critical and educational praxis, since the subject is constituted in a society managed by an instrumental rationality, which arises from a rational structure that transforms itself historically. In this dynamic process, the subject suffers the effects of these transformations and, at the same time, reproduces the objective determinations of society, interfering in his subjectivity and thus modifying his way of being and acting. Finally, it is demonstrated that human formation as an aesthetic experience and cultural creation, in the actual society, dialectically presents the (im)possibilities of education for the purpose of emancipation.
