Resumo

Research is an important learning resource at all stages of education and even more so in High School, when it is urgent to develop informational skills that help students to seek, evaluate and consciously use sources of information and its scientific contents, in order to critically and reflexively position themselves towards life. By understanding that teachers have a fundamental role in this process, we sought to identify and analyze how High School teachers from the Center for Teaching and Research Applied to Education at the Federal University of Goiás (CEPAE/UFG) guide the search and use of information sources to support student research. The study is characterized by a qualitative approach, constituting a case study with a descriptive-exploratory diagnostic perspective. For data collection, a questionnaire and an interview were used and the results were analyzed using the content analysis technique. It is based on the information search process by Kuhlthau (2010); in the evolutionary dynamics of research proposed by Faqueti (2002); in the discussions by Fialho (2004) and Gasque (2012) about knowing how to seek and use information with a focus on training juvenile researchers; and in the construction and reconstruction of knowledge defended by Demo (2003a). The results indicate that teachers guide school research, highlighting the dialogue to define the subject and focus of the investigation. Teachers recognize the students' difficulties in achieving content that effectively contributes to research, making it necessary to intensify guidance and follow-up in the search for materials relevant to the informational needs of students. It was observed that teachers are not clear on how the library and librarian can contribute to the research process, thus, it is understood as fundamental to strengthen the joint work of these professionals for better use of research as part of the pedagogical learning process. It is concluded, therefore, that it is essential to promote information literacy actions and the construction of instruments to support the work of the teacher with regard to the orientation of research at school. Thus, stands out, as a contribution, the educational product developed in the Stricto Sensu Professional Master's Degree of the Postgraduate Program in Teaching in Basic Education of the Center for Teaching and Research Applied to Education (CEPAE) of the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), entitled: ‘School research: how to do it? Guidelines for High School Teachers’, with which it is intended to assist teachers in proposing and monitoring school research.
