Resumo

This research analyzes cinema through a geographical perspective. The Brazilian film Red Carpet (2006), directed by Luiz Alberto Pereira, is the cinematographic production chosen to bring geographical science and cinematographic art close together. It will be the guiding thread, the imagery road of this journey of the gaze. The adventure evolves to the cultural tensions between countryside and city. The edition of the film is a pertinent construction that denotes the social and cultural tensions of these two spaces. Red Carpet is a passage of two extremes, Brazil is a complex passage of several extremes. The film script is a playful and exciting journey through a Brazil that leaves the countryside and becomes a metropolis. A journey that begins in tradition, resists and reaches modernity, which, in turn, amazes and seduces. Brazilian social and cultural landscapes become scenic ingredients that enrich the meaning of the experience of looking. The methodology is anchored in qualitative aspects and in the proposal of a science driven by emotion. Geographic places become narrative places, therefore cinematographic images create spatial subjectivities and vice versa. Our senses project us into the world, which, in turn, invades us. In this amalgamation, subjects are bound by their existential cartographies when they become aware of the world by their consciousness. In these premises, the research is pleased and delighted with some scenes. We describe and analyze them through observation so as to understand how the cinematographic technique elaborates spatial anthropomorphization. Cinematic images have cultural values, the spectator pours his soul into the scenes. They are welcomed by the eyes and, snuggled, they dance in the intertwining of subject and scene. There is the importance of traveling and an adventurous looking to Geography in the tensions between rural and urban imagination. Some scenes were selected and, from them, we explore the scenic arguments, the words, the qualities and the expressions which are common in the rural world. During the film, cities not only reveal themselves or appear beyond the hills, in police violence and begging misery, but they are also magical, so as a movie theater. The cinematographic experiences help in the construction of a sensitive and of sensibilities Geography. With this in mind, traveling is a perpetual state of being among places, the gaze touched by previous landscapes invades the next ones, it touches the sky in the experience of infinity. From panoramic views to detailed plans, Geography is a traveling science.
