Resumo
This research was developed during the Professional Master's Degree in Teaching in Basic
Education of the Stricto Sensu Graduate Program at CEPAE/UFG, with the objective of to
analyze and promote the usage of comics, among its many possibilities, as methodological
resources for the contents of primary education. The language of comics, in its various
formats (Comic Books, Magazines, Comic Strips, Cartoons, Cordel Literature, Graphic
Novels, Zines, Mangas) makes it possible for its reader to develop multiple abilities, such as
image interpretation, comprehension of verbal and non verbal language, fact analysis
(historical and daily facts) and news. Comics contribute to developing a habit of reading, and
it demands from its reader a critical analysis, especially in images that contain a high amount
of information. They have a multidisciplinary and trans-disciplinary potential, being able to
be used in various school subjects, as well as integrated projects, among others. For the
educational product, it was developed a comic book with the title: Cesium-137 in comics: the
geo-history of the radiological tragedy in Goiânia; as a pedagogical tool to be applied as a
form of teaching in the form of a comic. It was observed, by process of interviewing students
of "Colégio Estadual Manoel Libânio da Silva" in the year 2019, that most of the students
either are unaware of this historical fact, or have very little knowledge of it, although they live
in the cities of Goiania, Abadia de Goiás and nearby region. Even in the pedagogical books,
there is very little information on the accident with Cesium-137, also there are few academic
studies existing concerning the subject when the theme is primary education. In this sense this
research’s objective is to try to contribute as a source of accompanying educational material
to be used by teachers on the primary educational level, on elementary and high schools.
