Resumo

Literature on strategic planning considers that strategies are sources of competitive differentiation for organizations involved in strategic planning, as it allows the organization to place itself in the market in a differentiated way from its competitors. Competitive differentiation can also be achieved through innovation, and encouraged through the use of innovation strategies. The mission is a tool that became powerful in the formulation and implementation of strategies. The relationships between mission and innovation, in the transport of cargo agribusiness organizations, are seldom discussed in the literature, resulting in a theoretical gap on this relationship, although literature considers innovation as a source of competitive differentiation. The research objective relies on verifying the relationship between mission and innovation, using as its methodology the multiple case studies on agribusiness load transport companies headquartered in the city of Rio Verde, in the state of Goias. Initially, a literature review was conducted on paper works and covered the thematic areas of mission and innovation, aiming to highlight the key concepts and the applicability of the thematic areas. A survey was conducted among companies with core competence in the transport of agro-industrial loads, in order to reveal the data collected in the literature. As a theoretical contribution, the study approached the themes of mission and innovation in order to show the mission content components of the best management practices in this regard. As a practical relevance, the study identified the main implications of the mission in the innovation related to logistics companies in the state of Goiás, but it was not possible, with the methodology used, to assert whether the mission content influences or has influenced innovation in PSLs.
