Resumo
The system of organic production is growing in Brazil in cultivated field, number of
producers and the consumer market, but still is a small proportion of national agriculture.
However, to obtain good results, proper planning of the production system is necessary,
using efficient agricultural practices such as irrigation and proper fertilization. This work
aimed to evaluate irrigation management effects and lithothamnium levels on vegetative
growth, yield and fruit quality of sweet pepper grown under organic system in greenhouse.
The experiment was conducted at the College of Agronomy, Federal University of Goiás,
in the period June-December of 2013. The treatments consisted of different lithothamnium
levels and irrigation management by water tensions in soil. Lithothamnium levels were: 0;
0.5; 1; 2; and 4 g dm-3 (equivalent to 0, 1, 2, 4, and 8 t ha-1, respectively); and water
tensions in soil were: 6 kPa, 24 kPa, 42 kPa and 60kPa.The experimental design was
complete randomized block with four replications and each plot with one plant per pot. It
was added to the soil fertilization with manure and Yoorin. The plants were irrigated by
drip and monitoring of water tension in soil was performed with Waltermark sensors. Were
evaluated the growth characteristics, yield and quality of sweet peppers: height and
diameter of plant, leaf area index, dry weight of stem, leaves and roots, number of flowers
and fruit, length, diameter and fruit mass, strength and uniformity of fruits peel. Data were
subjected to analysis of variance and regression. There was a significant effect of water
tension in soil as an indicator of the time of irrigation to height and diameter of plant, leaf
area index, dry weight of stem and leaves, number of flowers and fruits, total production
per plant, average weight and uniformity of the fruit, showing the best results for 6 kPa
tension, controlled to 0.15m deep. The leaf area index and total yield per plant were the
variables most affected by drought. There was a significant effect of fertilization with
lithothamnium to leaf dry and root dry matter, total number of flowers and total yield per
plant, average weight and uniformity of the fruit and the recommended economic level to
organic cultivation of sweet pepper is 1.06 t ha-1 of lithothamnium.
