Goiânia e seus enredos urbanos: o espaço público e os sujeitos sociais na Avenida Goiás

Resumo
The objective of this study is to understand the public space of The Goiás Avenue, in Goiânia, through interrelationships that it maintains with the social subjects in their everyday experiences. The Goiás Avenue is a historic and important public thoroughfare of the city, its constitution is linked to the project of creation of the new capital in the early 1930. Designed as a “garden-avenue”, its layout would serve several purposes, since attending to the road network of the city to being a place for public tours and civic manifestations. After the 1970s its spatial configuration and the social dynamics have changed due to the development and the city's expansion process. Despite the changes, after the years 2000, its space is still marked by actions of resistances and sociability practices between social subjects, mostly belonging to a low income class. We opted for the time frame between the 1930s and the year of 2018 and the four temporal subdivisions proposed by Vaz (2002). At present, the avenue, as a public space, has essential attributes to establish relations of coexistence between the subjects, among them, we high light the diversity of uses, the centrality,
the accessibility and the urban components installed in their morphology. By the set of two
dimensions, physical and social, two scenarios of the public life of The Goiás Avenue were
identified through the communications and the visibility conferred on it, one between street 2 and street 4 (comprises the Bandeirantes square and three blocks), defined as scenario I; another one between street 4 and street 55 (comprises three blocks, among them, the majority of the residential buildings and the Cidadão restaurant), defined as scenario II. We find in this space, expressions of urban life created by multiple social subjects who regularly meet and occupy this place. To characterize these expressions and the urban plots included in the two scenarios delimited in the research, we prioritize the qualitative research, having as methodology the interviews with the subjects who experience this intra-urban space and other resources, such as: photography and field journal. Such methodology and resources were used in order to understand the reasons that lead these subjects to be on the benches of the Avenue during the day and to keep their social links lodged between the public and private spheres. Thus, to recognize their stories, continuities and discontinuities, their acts of permanence, through these interrelationships, demonstrates the process of the construction of a socio-spatial arrangement full of meanings.
