Dermatite digital bovina: aspectos relacionados à evolução clínica

Resumo

Bovine digital dermatitis is a multifactorial, complex disease responsible for significant economic impact in cattle production all around the world. The objective of this study was to evaluate aspects related to clinical evolution of bovine digital dermatitis after antibiotic therapy. 28 female Girolando-breed bovines between four and ten years of age showing digital lesions with clinical characteristics of digital dermatitis were distributed into two groups (I and II) of 14 animals. Group II cows were treated with intramuscular 20 mg of oxytetracyclin per kg of body weight in 48 hour intervals until completion of four applications, while Group I was not treated with antibiotics. Most lesions on the skin of the interdigital space between the heel bulbs showed erosive clinical pattern, while those located at the limit points between the skin and the horn of the bulbs, at the abaxial wall of the hoof or at the dorsal interdigital space related to the proliferative pattern. Although no cures were verified in any animals from either groups, analysis of the clinical scores demonstrated that, regardless the characteristics of the lesions, their severity was lower in the animals treated with antibiotics therapy.
